Framework Proposal for Open Innovation Implementation in SMEs of Regional Innovation Systems

    Get PDF
In the literature of Open Innovation (OI), some specific themes, such as elaboration of methods, strategies and systematized processes of implementation are still little discussed. In attempted to fill this research gap, this study aims to present a proposal for a framework for the implementation of OI in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises of Regional Innovation Systems (RIS). As such, it can support the theoretical development related to OI implementation methods and tools. The constructivist method was used in the development of the framework, which represents the Implementation Process of OI (IPOI), consisting of 5 stages: (i) diagnosis of RIS; (ii) diagnosis of the enterprise; (iii) preparation; (iv) implementation; and (v) monitoring and control. The unfolding of this process in stages and measurement systems allows us to understand the elements and Critical Success Factors (CSF) that interfere in the improvement of the capacity of innovation in SMEs inserted in RIS

Modeling and assessment of a modular system information management at Web Abstract Information management may be identified as a crucial challenge. This is particularly true when website contents and web-based information systems are addressed. Thus, the development of means and methods for website content management is the subject of this paper. Through a report of an application of a participant research, the functional description of a modular system for website content management is presented. Aspects associated with system development and application at 28 websites are discussed. Additionally, a quantitative evaluation, based on user satisfaction, easiness of use, frequency of use and importance of the different modules is presented. The results confirm the flexibility of the modular system proposed and reveal that: (i) web administrators were satisfied; (ii) they use the modules without noticeable difficulty; and (iii) they get positive results using the system. The aim of this paper is to propose an instrument to identify and evaluate change potential in telecommunication companies. Twenty Critical Success Factores (CSF) identified in published literature on change management were consolidated in five groups and used to develop a generic survey instrument. The instrument was applied in a survey with four telecommunication firms combined with interviews with selected respondents. Data analysis was conducted on three variables: respondent Hierarchical Level (HL), Company, and CSF Group. Results from the studied case indicate a significant difference in HL and a significant interaction between HL and Company. Moreover, the instrument allowed to identify a particular difference in one of the studied companies. This opens up the possibility of using the instrument to benchmark change potential

ANALYSIS OF DETERMINANTS FOR OPEN INNOVATION IMPLEMENTATION IN REGIONAL INNOVATION SYSTEMS

This study deals with the challenge of implementing an Open Innovation strategy in Regional Innovation Systems. In this context, our research question is: can a Regional Innovation Systems be a favorable environment for Open Innovation implementation? To address this question, the main objective of this paperwas to identify and analyze the determinant factors for a successful implementation of Open Innovation in Regional Innovation Systems. The factors were empirically tested through qualitative research involving seven of the key actors in a Regional Innovation Systems in the Paraná state, in southern Brazil. The results suggest that some of the determinants factors and conditions for Open Innovation implementation are: proximity and close relationship with Higher Education Institutions; existence of a governance system to intermediate relationships with knowledge actors outside the regional system; mechanisms of relationship network and knowledge absorptive capacity by the firms constituting the Regional Innovation Systems; and provision of public support (e.g., incentives, funding, infrastructure). Since these determinants are present in the Regional Innovation Systems in question, we conclude that the Regional Innovation Systems offers a favorable environment to Open Innovation implementation. Additionally, we highlight a number of contributions and implications for academics, practitioners and those interested in Regional Innovation Systems governance.ra

This paper describes the design, implementation and critical evaluation of an Electronic Kanban solution in the automotive industry. This sector still experiences difficulties integrating the supply processes between customers and suppliers, mainly as a consequence of the typical bullwip effect. With this in mind, as well as a number of other difficulties faced internally by the studied company that contributed to compromised efficiency and reliability of the process, it was proposed that the traditional Kanban Cards should be replaced by the Electronic Kanban. The results are presented using a method that sought to distinguish between practical intervention conducted within company and academic research, whilst highlighting the way in which the data collected during the intervention was used as an input to structure and inform the results of the study. Therefore, in addition to studying the current state and proposing a future state, a description of the implementation process was presented and the associated difficulties were explored. Furthermore, a critical analysis of the gains that the system afforded the company was presented and those it may continue to offer in the future
